BEARA is a beautifully produced study of the magnificent landscape of the Beara Peninsula in South West Ireland. This book is the culmination of a two-year project during which I revisited a familiar landscape to create new images and to look a little closer at what’s behind my 26-year love affair with this small part of the world.
It is a spectacular yet sometimes overlooked place and is only recently gaining some of the recognition it deserves as an exceptional destination to visit and for the lucky ones, to live in.
The book is beautifully produced with 120 pages containing 90 stunning images. The cover concept draws from the overriding influence of texture the Beara brings to my work, the hugely influential reams of copper once mined here and the contrasting subtlety and drama that is all around.
The foreword by Neil Jordan is a suitably personal reflection on a place he knows intimately.
“what Norman McCloskey captures forever is that moment when the rain has stopped, and the familiar beauty emerges from the cloud. You had almost forgotten it was there.”
