Publisher's Description
Published on the occasion of the first major travelling exhibition dedicated to John Stezaker’s work, this book provides an overview of the artist’s famous collage work.
Stezaker – celebrated for his use of old film stills, portraits and postcards – engages with this found material through inversion, excision, incision, fusion and accidental damage.
This comprehensive publication focuses on the dialectics innate in this British artist’s work, such as life and death, looking and blindness, male and female, love and betrayal, portrait and landscape, and so forth.
The exhibition opens at the Whitechapel Gallery, London in January 2011 and travels to the MUDAM, Luxembourg at the end of the year.
Available January 2011.
